This one is another design script and fabrication assist for our friends at Tecturete in San Diego. Their design for a multi-layered outdoor slatted canopy was great, and the client loved it. But Tecture needed to optimize spacing, and slat count to make the budget work, and that’s where we come in.

A compact grasshopper script defined the slat sizing, spacing min/max and the varied spacing distribution along the length of the canopy. Sliders and pre-referenced model geometries kept the definition accessible to anybody who could type “Grasshopper” and navigate Rhino. Relays in the definition kept the design portion light and responsive, while the export of fabrication files for the metal support arches was only completed once a final approved design was chosen.
