Our friends at Tecture came to us with a killer idea for an art piece they needed help implementing. They had a series of simple shapes that they wanted represented by a field of acrylic disks that seemed to float, looking like a cloud or a swarm of moon jellyfish. We sat down with them to talk through their needs for the computer modelling and fabrication processes to get their idea from pitch deck to reality.

We provided a compact grasshopper definition that allowed them to iterate quickly through different overall shapes, densities and disk sizes. The team at Tecture consists of designers and fabricators all under one roof, so they also needed a final fab file to put it all together. A simple spreadsheet of vertical dimensions aligned to their overhead grid allowed a quick, no nonsense way to get their team the needed info to put it all together.
